摘要:This research examines how psychological distance influences the perceived difference between two numerical values. Integrating insights from past research on numerical cognition and mental construal, we hypothesize and find that increased psychological distance decreases individuals’ attention to right digits and consequently changes their perception of numerical difference. By operationalizing psychological distance in different ways and using various numerical judgments, five studies offered triangulating support to this theorizing and the psychological mechanism underlying this effect. For example, we found that the difference between 3.01 and 3.49 was perceived to be larger when the judgment is psychologically close (vs. distant); however, the mathematically similar difference between 3.49 and 4.01 loomed larger in the distant than close condition


讲座人简介:严登峰,现任上海纽约大学市场营销学副教授和纽约大学全球特聘副教授,国家自然科学基金“优秀青年”项目资助。他于香港科技大学获市场营销学博士学位。在2012-2018年期间,任得克萨斯大学圣安东尼奥分校助理教授和副教授。严登峰博士的研究领域包括消费者如何处理数量信息以及心理距离如何影响消费者的判断与偏好,其研究成果发表于《消费者研究期刊》(JCR)、《营销研究期刊》(JMR)、《消费者心理学期刊》(JCP)、《性格与社会心理学期刊》(JPSP)等,严登峰博士目前是JCR和JCP的编委会成员。
